Mistress Memoir Synopsis:

What kind of woman becomes a mistress? Someone who has no regard for the unspoken cardinal rule among women of “Thou shalt not covet another woman’s husband?” Certainly not Kahla Thompson; or so she thought.

Kahla is beautiful, single, and independently successful, possessing all the material goods a woman could desire. Her life is surreptitiously turned upside down when she meets Kevin Eckhart, a married man with a million-dollar smile and a seductive charm she falls prey to. The two have a magnetic, compelling attraction for each another and begin a relationship under the guise of friendship. Kahla struggles to suppress her hunger for Kevin, but soon finds herself in a paradox; fighting her natural propensity to avoid an affair versus her lascivious desires for a married man and all he represents.

Mistress Memoirs is an engaging, unorthodox lurk into the mind of a mistress. Through the illuminating introspective words of Kahla; Lorraine Elzia engrossingly entertains, while skillfully removing the cocoon of preconceived notions as to why a woman becomes a mistress. By delving into the self-analyzing inner thoughts that catapult Kahla into the role of the woman on the side, Mistress Memoirs gives a vision of who the other woman really is as viewed from the standpoint of the mistress herself.

Lorraine Elzia is an Author and Ghost Writer. Mistress Memoirs is the debut novel for Lorraine, who has espoused the name A Deeva, and often writes under that pseudonym. She has always had an admiration for both the spoken and written word and has exercised that gregarious gift in various venues. That love affair of words, coupled with an addictive need to express herself, gave birth to a compulsion to write, which is a gift she is constantly nurturing.

In 2005, she added the title "Author" to her lists of accomplishments with the publication of her first short story "Mommy and Santa" which was published in "Chicken Soup for the Single Parent’s Soul" and her poem, "I am a Woman" was a Letstalkhonestly.com contest winner. Those literary achievements were proceeded by a second publication in the Chicken Soup series in 2006 with the inclusion of her story, “Letters of Love” in the Chicken Soup for the African American Woman’s Soul Anthology; inclusion in the Katrina Anthology, Surfacing...Phenomenal Women on Passion, Politics & Purpose, and a poem, “Levitate” in the Gumbo for the Soul Anthology.

In 2007, Lorraine continued to strike while the literary fire was still hot with “A Test of Faith” in the Triumph of My Soul Anthology and she is a contributing author in the 2009 second publication of Gumbo for the Soul Anthology, with inclusion of her poem “Am I My Brother’s Keeper.” Lorraine is Co-Owner of Eve’s Literary Services, contributing Editor of the “Gumbo for the Soul” series; and Co-Moderator of Essentially Women, a writing group for African American women. She is from Austin, Texas, by way of Motown (Detroit, Michigan) and it is her desire that through the written word delivered in different genres, she will be able to inspire and motivate others to see the beauty that resides within all people.

Is this book based on a true situation?

Reply to This

No. The story is 100% fictional. I didn't even outline it before writing it. I winged it chapter by chapter and did not even know how it was going to end until I wrote it. I built the story around a message, if that makes any sense. The only direction I had was I knew what message I wanted to present, and I let the story lead me around that. Some of the poems in the book were written during earlier moments in my life, and I just blew the dust off of them and added them to the story because they fit. But the characters, the situation, all of it is fiction and just a figment of my imagination.

Welcome to Mahogany Lorraine

what was the inspiration for this story?
sounds like a great story, I love the book cover.
do you write full time?
what are working on now?

Thanks for the complements. It's hard to answer the question "Do you write full time?" Mostly because I have a real gig, and a very demanding one at that since I work in the court system. However, I am always writing...day and night. I go to meetings at my real gig and will sit and write during them. From the moment I come in the house, I write sniglets (that's what I call little bursts of writing inspirations/stories). And I am a night owl, so I write until I literally fall asleep with my pen in my hand and my husband picks up all my scribbled notes and puts them in a folder for me to translate them in the morning. So with that being said, I don't write full time to pay my bills, but I do write in some form or another all day long.

In answer to what am I working on now; I am working on a piece for the Gumbo for my Soul Anthology which deals with breast cancer. And since I have been bitten by loving this "Author" title, I am working on my next book, which is called "Ask Nicely and I Might". It is a story about a black female serial killer. It is a suspense thriller and I am really excited about it.

I'm not sure the Amazon link above is working.
The book is available on the right side bar.

What inspired you to write a book on this topic?

Reply to This

Through conversations with family, friends and online conversations, I was noticing a growing pattern of professional women with everything going for themselves, yet they were ending up in relationships with married men. In those relationships it was not as if the men lied about their situation, yet the women went into the relationship with their eyes wide opened. In discussions with these women I found it intriguing to research "How" a woman finds herself in that situation. That's what the book is about. Mistress Memoirs gets to the bottom of WHY a woman would allow herself to be in that position.

Have you written any other books? Is this book going to have a sequel to it?

Reply to This

I am in about 5 anthologies, including two for Chicken Soup for the Soul, but this is my first solo project. I am currently working on my second book, "Ask Nicely and I Might" which will be released in 2010.

Several of my readers asked me to make a sequel to Mistress Memoirs, but I didn't want to go that route. I think that the ending of the book finalizes the story line and writing a sequel would "Cheapen" the affect of the story.

I had to rethink this question a bit because I also do ghost writing, so there are some books out that I have written or co-written, but for which I can't take credit for. But I love writting so much and seeing a story come to life, that I often do forget to answer this question with a "yes", because technically I have written other books besides Mistress Memoirs.

Dawnny,

I want to publically thank you for this opportunity. The Meet and Greet on this site is such a wonderful venue and I feel honored to be presented in this manner. I appreciate the gesture and thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to be here.
