About Me:
Deborah Thomas was born in Boston, Ma. My brother and I spending most of the time with their paternal grandmother, Flora Clemons Thomas.

My brother and I had the unique opportunity of living in two very different cultural communities which has brought in different kind of insight into their lives. The parents lived in the american dream of a suburban home in one monotone community and grandparent living in an urban monotone community. Many people move around but few really experience the so called other side of the fence regularly.

I didn't reaaly get into any writing until middle school in my worse class, English comp. I did a lot of short stories and poems. Most people enjoyed reading my stories. It was years later (including four kids) before I started submitting to online sites including AuthorMe, Poetrypoem and the notorious Poetry.com. In fact, I did hear from two outside publications that wanted to reprint three of my poems.

I didn't really attempt longer pieces (over 5,000 words) until I discovered the National Novel Writers Month (NANO) site and their mental writer's challenge of writing 50,000 words in a month. This occurs in November. My first attempt was in 2003 with a piece called Multicity. It ended up at 38,000. The next year, Brekleby was born with 53,000. Since then, there have been one if not one and a half stories each year. And I look forward participating again this year.
